Auchincruive Church was restored in 1595  by Alan, Fourth Lord Cathcart, who owned the Sundrum and Auchincruive Estates from 1547 until 1618, and was Patron of St Quivox Church. An old panel on the South wall bears his arms and initials. (A more modern commemorative plaque is below).

An early Adherent to the Protestantism of John Knox and agreed by bond to the Reformed religion, he joined the Regents Council Board (after the defeat of Queen Mary's forces at Langside) and was created a member of the Privy Council, and in 1610, was appointed one of the first Justices of the Peace in Ayr.

St Quivox Parish Church: Ayr (Church of Scotland) (known as Ayr:St Quivox Parish Church) is a Scottish Charity, SC004906, regulated by the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR)
