Skull and Crossbones
The Campbell Mausoleum, St Quivox Churchyard, Ayr
 
The Campbell Mausoleum, a Doric structure designed by William Henry Playfair,  was  built in 1822 to enclose the grave of the advocate James Campbell of Bardarroch, then of Craigie (c.1784 ~ 1860).

1. 1813 Married Mary Dehany Fotheringham  (1791 – 1821 )
Five children
  • One son, Brigadier General, Colonel William Campbell (1814 – 1858, in India) 
  • Four daughters, details not certain.

2. 1828 Married Grace Elizabeth Hay, (1806 – 1878 )the daughter of General Archibald Hay, K.C.B.

  • Harriet Louisa Campbell (1829 – 1887)
  • Richard Frederick Fotheringham  Campbell (1831 – 1888)
Richard Frederick Fotheringham Campbell was educated at Rugby School. He was an army officer and served as a captain in the 8th Madras Cavalry. He was Vice-Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Lieutenant-Colonel in the Ayrshire Yeomanry Cavalry. He was also Liberal MP for Ayr, sitting  in the House of Commons from 1880 to 1888.

Since then a number of other members of the family have been added to a list inscribed within the memorial.
