A Message from the Minister this Spring
Not so long ago, I saw a story tucked away, that seemed to be hidden from general view, and as such would have been easy to miss. For the overwhelming majority of those who read it, it wouldn’t have meant a thing. For those involved, however, it was a great story, even though, it wasn’t one of a life and death nature. It might not seem much to us, but how often have we taken our sight off the small blessings that seem to come our way on a daily basis as we major on bigger things that are going on in our lives, bigger things that so often we are unable to do anything about anyway. I remember my mum always used to say a quiet “thank you God” every time a parking space mysteriously became available for her whenever she was looking for somewhere to park. Now I know that great high minded theological minds will argue that God is not watching over us so that he can make parking spaces available for us whenever we are out. However, the prophet Zecheriah tells us: “Who despises the day of small things” (4:10) Sometimes it is easy to look at the negative in life, when everyone around us is doing the same, and there are times, and I don’t deny it, when we need to look hard for the blessings, but they are there, nonetheless. I always count the continuity of the seasons as a massive blessing; after all who wants to live their lives in winter all year round, and even more darkness. The gentle moving of darkness to lighter nights, the re-emerging of colourful plants, the variety of nature on our doorstep, the birds who constantly sing to us, ( in my case it’s the seagulls shouting for food……😊). How can these be anything else but blessings? Wherever you are, whoever you are, I trust our Church’s web site will be a blessing to you, and that you will be enriched by it. And where’er you go may you know and experience the rich blessings, both small and large of a God who loves you and blesses you more than we fully appreciate. |
