We were also able to welcome Mrs. Barbara Maclean, her daughter Zoe with Remus - her 'Canine Partner'.
Remus is a 5 year old Golden Retriever who has been specially trained to partner and assist Zoe with everyday tasks we would find simple, e.g. removing gloves, a hat or a jacket, picking items from the shelf in a supermarket, handing over Zoe's purse to the Checkout - operator. And the family gave a very interesting practical demonstration of Remus in action.
Canine Partners are a charitable organisation who train the dogs - and their partners - to work together and help provide a welcome extra dimension of independence and friendship. Zoe, despite being confined to a wheelchair enjoys an active life, recently enjoyed a year studying in Spain, She teaches French and Spanish and sings with a 'Rock Choir' in Largs in addition to many live demonstrations to Clubs and organisations up and down the country raising funds for Canine Partners. It costs in the region of £20,000 to buy and train a dog and partner, so it takes a lot of work to raise the money. We are delighted, along with Troon St. Meddans, our Project Partners, to have selected Canine Partners as a selected Charity for this year.
