Our Football Coaching Classes got off to a modest,- but very energetic start- at the Wilson Church Hall, Dalmilling today, as Coaches, Ross, Ally and Scott put them through their paces..
The kids who did turn out really enjoyed being coached in improving their football skills, and they showed flashes of real skill.  I think we have some stars of the future here.
Efforts are being made to  put the word out about the Coaching Classes and attract more kids to attend.
P's 2-4's sessions are on Tuesdays from 3.30 - 4.45pm, commencing 11th.November, and P's 5-7's on Thursdays from 3.30- 5.00pm,
commencing Thursday, 13th November.

One More Step Along The Way!

The Teddy Bears Toddlers Group
Our 'NorthAyrTheGither' Community Project takes another big step forward this week  with the formation of the 'Teddy Bears Toddlers Group' in the Wilson Hall, Dalmilling Church.
Interested Parents and Toddlers  can get together on Wednesday, 29th.October, starting at 10am until 12 noon.
Our Community Worker, Trish Archibald, has worked hard to establish this much needed facility in the Dalmilling area, and, I am sure we all wish her, the volunteers - and the parents! every success with this exciting new venture.
Watch out for more pictures.

Pause for Thought from Rev. Rona Young

A Thought
A sensible diet, an alert and steady mind, and devotion to universal law sounds good contemporary sense. In fact, this universal law comes from Inhotep, a priest-physician in Egypt around 3,000 B.C.!
There is nothing new under the sun, but there is a modern wisdom which is really very ancient.  And, where ancient and modern wisdom coincide, despite some 5,000 years between, it is probable that we are touching a universal truth.

The congregations of Ayr St.Quivox, St.James and Newton Wallacetown, came together on Sunday evening in Newton Wallacetown Church for a joint Songs of Praise Evening led by the Rev.Abi Ngunga.
Four members from each Church selected and introduced their favourite hymn to be included in the programme. In addition, the Rev.Abi Ngunga surprised everyone by singing 'On Calvary'- Unaccompanied in his own unique style. Music was provided by the 'Mini Praise Group, pictured above, namely, Pauline Johnston, Joyce Fenton, and three generations  of the McPherson famiy - Betty, Caitlin, and Dorothy McPherson.
An enjoyable and inspirational evening was rounded off with a "wee cup of tea," provided by the ladies in the Church Hall.
Trish Archibald, Pat Johnston, David McMahon and John Black selected and introduced their hymns on behalf of St.Quivox. Rev. Rona Young read a Bible Passage and Rev. Douglas Moore led the congregation in Prayer.

Our Intrepid Group!

Picture
Who says the Bible can't be fun? Our Bible Explorers Group, pictured above, would certainly disagree.  Currently we are 'exploring' the Old Testament book of Nehemiah, and this is producing  wide ranging discussion ranging from thought provoking to very humorous.
It is very far from dull, and we meet every Wednesday at 7.30pm. in the Manse. All are welcome.

New page added - A Short History

Footprints in the sand

PictureFootprint in the Sand.
I have added another page to our website entitled: 'A Short History', which I hope will prove informative.
I have relied heavily on former Session Clerk, Nana Taylor's booklet -'A Short History of St. Quivox Church' published in 1994 for which I am grateful, and have made additions, which I believe to be accurate, but I am more than happy to be corrected!

Like the footprint in the sand, history and memories can be washed away by time and disappear completely.
There is much more yet to add to our history, in word and pictures, especially on the history of Dalmilling Church. and I would really appreciate any form of input - Photos, programmes, newspaper cuttings, brochures, stories etc. relating to St. Quivox Parish Church.

All items for inclusion - with your permission - will be copied and returned immediately to the owner. In advance, I offer you my thanks for helping us share our history with the World - it is certainly worth sharing!!

Pause for Thought
from Rev. Rona Young.

A Prayer.
If this be a day of gladness,
I praise you, O God,
If this be a day of sadness,
I seek you, O God
If this be a day of challenge,
I lean on you, O God
If this be a day of achievement,
I thank you, O God.
Amen

A happy group of the Auchincruive congregation gathered round the Harvest Festival display. Picture: Alister Firth Photography.
There were Harvest Festival Services held in both Churches today (Sunday),
The traditional Harvest Displays were greatly boosted by large quantities of tinned goods and provisions donated by the Congregations, and these have  been donated to the Salvation Army Foodbank in Ayr, for distribution to needy families in the area.
Grateful thanks to all who gave so generously.

Point to ponder

 Harvest

Paul Powell wrote in his book The Complete Disciple:

"Many churches today remind me of a labouring crew trying to gather in a harvest while they sit in the tool shed. They go to the tool shed every Sunday and they study bigger and better methods of agriculture, sharpen their hoes, grease their tractors, and then get up and go home. Then they come back that night, study bigger and better methods of agriculture, sharpen their hoes and grease their tractors and go home again. They come back Wednesday night, and again study bigger and better methods of agriculture, sharpen their hoes, grease their tractors, and get up and go home. They do this week in and week out, year in and year out, and nobody ever goes out into the fields to gather in the harvest."
