Another thoughtful message from Rev. Ken Yorke
Jesus told us not to be worried about tomorrow.
If we are wise enough to heed this advice it helps us to come to terms with today!
What do I mean?
Jesus’ advice reminds us that life has an end.!
Our days are limited ! Our life is measured in days and years!
So nothing that ought to be done today should
be left until tomorrow.
We cannot be sure we will have a tomorrow .
So we shouldn’t be nursing a grudge against someone. We shouldn’t be holding back forgiveness.
We shouldn’t fail to take action now that we know we ought to take.
Today is the only time we can be sure of so we should live as if it were our last.
When Jesus talked about not worrying about tomorrow he also knew that our life here ought to have a purpose. If your aims and interests are all worldly you will worry about tomorrow. The goals may be money, knowledge, prestige or position. Of themselves and in their place not bad objectives but if they become sole aims they will make us always anxious about tomorrow.
When our aim is to be like Jesus anxiety about tomorrow disappears.
Also when Jesus talks about not worrying about tomorrow he is reminding us that life here isn’t finished until we come to the end.
Many people have given up thinking their life is finished and suddenly they have found a new lease of life. It us the one who endures to the end who is saved.
Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.
Eternal watchfulness is the price of honour.
We must keep on going to the end.
Jesus would also have us note that the ultimate end of life is meeting with God.
The end of time is eternity. The end of life is God.
The last step of life is a step into the very presence of God. So the great essential of life is that we should prepare ourselves for entry into the presence of God. And it is certain that only people who have tried to live with God in this world will enter without fear into the world to come.
Do not be anxious about tomorrow.
Accept today the inevitability of life’s end,
Live in the present enjoying and using to the full the time you have been given.
Live in the knowledge that one day you shall enter into the very presence of God.
If we live like that there is no need to be worried about tomorrow.
Our future is in Gods hands.
