Last Monday, while working on the outside steps of the Church, I was delighted to see some visitors to the Church yard. They introduced themselves as Scott, Shannon, and Victoria Robertson from Saint John, New Brunswick, Joann Welch from Black River, and Meghan Thorne and Hannah Gray, from Quispamsis, New Brunswick, Canada. I was delighted to learn that they were over in Scotland to attend the World Pipe Band Championships held at the Glasgow Green the previous Saturday where the girls had competed against very stiff competition in the Country Dancing Competition. Scott's family were Ayrshire folks who had emigrated to Canada and his Grandfather, who attended Auchincruive Church and is buried in the Churchyard, The family were able to locate the headstone and pay their respects. as well as visiting inside the Church to see where their ancestors sat and worshipped all those years ago. Another wee piece of family history had been added to Scot's family history research. Time was moving on, there was a Ferry to catch at Gourock for Dunoon where the Girls would be competing at the top level at the famous Cowal Games.. We thank the family for visiting our Church, wish them every success at the Cowal Games and hope they have suitcases full of medals and great memories of Scotland.
