On Palm Sunday, this year Sunday, 29 March, Jesus, consciously and deliberately, chose to enter Jerusalem. He rode on a donkey, as foretold in the Old Testament, in the book of Zechariah,
“Look, your king is coming to you!
He comes triumphant and victorious,
but humble and riding on a donkey –
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
There were loud hosannas and the waving of palm branches, but Jesus rode a donkey, and not a war horse – the way they would expect a king to enter the city.
As the week went on the cheers changed to “Crucify him!” “Crucify him” ! and although he knew this, Jesus rode on.
